Definitions
Full Membership
- Full membership in the organization is limited to only, full time, &
Retired civil service members of the Austin Fire Department and
departments of surrounding towns, who support and uphold the By-Laws of
the Austin African-American Firefighters Association in its entirety.
Full members have the right to:

Attend
all meetings of the general body

Attend
a meeting of the executive board of directors by invitation
·
Make
motions from the floor
·
Eligible for membership for committees
·
Eligible for membership card
·
Second
motions from the floor
·
Make
moves from the floor
·
Vote on
all issues brought before the general body

Sponsor
associate memberships
·
View
all literature upon reasonable request

Copies
of all newsletters and all notices
A probationary period
of twelve months must be completed prior to being granted a full
membership. During probation candidates will be classified as an
associate member. Probationary candidates will posses all the privileges
as an associate member. Probation starts the day the membership
committee processes the application, and end on that date the following
year. The E-Board has the ability to waive the probationary period or
deny full membership based on activities or actions that violate the
AAAFFA bylaws during the probationary period. All new members have an
associate membership status throughout their probationary period unless
waived by the E-Board.
Associate Membership
– An associate membership allows civilians (non-fire service) the
opportunity to give back to their community through AAAFFA while
assisting AAAFFA is reaching their goals and fulfilling their mission.
Anyone can apply for an associate membership who support and uphold the
By-Laws of the Austin African-American Firefighters Association in its
entirety. Associate members must be sponsored by two members with
full membership. All new members have an associate membership status
throughout their probationary period unless waived by the E-Board.

Honorary Membership
- An honorary member is a person whom the association bestows with a
membership due to an outstanding deed or position as deemed by the
membership committee. Honorary members have the right to:
Life Time Membership
- A member in good standing for at least 51% of their fire
service as confirmed
by the local association President or in the case of an
individual member
where no local association exist, confirmed by the Regional
Director; retired
from active duty (fire service); pays a one-time membership fee
of $100.00 to the
IABPFF shall be granted lifetime membership status with the IABPFF and
$250 to AAAFFA for lifetime membership with AAAFFA. No other
dues shall be levied
for either group. Persons found to have bypassed the required service
commitment to the local association shall be purged from Life Time
Membership file. Any
disabled member in good standing shall be exempt from
all requirements of
service and fees.
